There isn't much to it. In the center you will see the solder points where the stock Elna 220uF caps have been removed and replaced with Panasonic FM series 1200uF caps. Use what you can find. Panasonic, Elna, Nichicon or others, as long as it's a low ESR cap good for fairly high frequencies. The Tripath switching noise has harmonics all the way up to 10Mhz. You want a cap with a 2.5mm lead spacing. 8mm in diameter is the largest cap that will fit without a struggle. To the left you where I have grounded the input tracks. Do this ONLY if you are replacing the input path with wire. Just scrape a little varnish off the PCB and solder a short wire from the old input tracks to the ground plane. A shot bit of component lead works well. Use a bit you have snipped off a resistor or cap. What this does is connected the now unused input tracks to ground. At the top you will see the connection points for the input caps. You have a great selection to match the length of your new caps. The Jantzen 1.5uF I used fits perfectly between the farthest two points. The stock caps are easy to remove. |
| To the bottom right of the image you can see the 6 holes where the stock volume pot was removed. This is a very tough job!! You will probably burn the board and lift the solder pads. You can see that I did. =( But it doesn't matter, you won't be using them again. Just take you time and go gently. The potentiometer replacement is not a "Must Do", but it sure won't hurt! |
