Above is the frequency response of a SONIC IMPACT 5066 amp in stock form (red) and after modifications (green). We can see the now well known (first reported here) low frequency drop-off of the little Sonic Impact amp. The modified version has a much flatter response. For systems crossed over above 100 Hz, this should not present much of a problem. The amp has the typical rising response on the top end with loads greater than ~6 ohms. This tends to give some high end "sparkle". The green line going off the top of the chart is the amp unloaded. Similar results are found for all the amps, see graphs. Replacing the input caps with larger values as seen above will help to flatten the low end curve. Modified amp has replaced input caps (just the caps ma'am) and replaced onboard electrolytic. |
